The Aigamuxa is said to be a large, humanoid creature found in Khoikhoi mythology in Africa. The Aigamuxa is very easy to escape from however. Wildlife adventurer and biologist Forrest Galante and his crew set up camera traps on the new Animal Planet show Extinct or Alive to try and find a Zanzibar Leopard. Incredibly, it is quite possible that they did!

The Zanzibar Leopard was thought to have been hunted to extinction 25 years ago. Galante and his crew broke into excited screams and cheers. It lives in a cave in Richtersveld that supposedly extends all the way to the ocean and is full of precious gems. Ina man trying to find the Grootslang lost his exploring party to lion attacks and then he himself went missing, prompting assumptions that he was killed by the Grootslang itself.

Natives of Tanzania note Mngwa is not the lion Simbaand describe the creature as being an extremely aggressive, gray cat the size of a donkey. Also known as the Nunda, the beast was best described by a hunter named Patrick Bowen who stalked the animal for days but was unable to get a clear shot to produce a specimen. Bernard Heuvelman theorized that it might be a hybrid or a subspecies of leopard. The Keitloa is an extremely rare version of the black rhinoceros that is easily recognized by its second horn being as long or longer than the front horn.

Local tribes in the area tell tales of it and it is popular in the folklore of many tribes throughout the region. Descriptions of the creature closely describe the Sauropoda or a Titanosaur. A long neck, large body and a small head. Most descriptions are consistent with the appearance and behavior of the thought to be extinct dinosaurs. However some tribes see the creature differently.

Is it possible that a rogue rhino is responsible? Other tribes stick to their descriptions of the creature insisting on the long neck as a key feature. Maybe there is a surviving population of Sauropods still roaming the region. Such a dense forested area and expansive waterways surely could hide a large animal. The local tribes are adamant about the creatures existence, so is it possible that Sauropods still exist? Pterodactyls, plesiosaurs and megalodons are thought to still roam the Earth.

Is it so far fetched for a small population to still thrive to this day? Is misidentification an issue? What are the people truly seeing? When will we get our first photographic evidence? The answer lies in the Congo, waiting to be found. A creature that resembles a prehistoric animal like the Mokele-mbembe and the Mbielu-Mbielu-Mbielu.

The earliest sighting of a creature resembling the Nguma-monen was documented in by Lucien Blancou where he heard the testimonial of an old man who had seen the creature while fishing sometime in the s.

The old man only saw its neck which was estimated to be around 8 meters long. Lucien Blancou also reported seeing a similar creature in There were two sightings of the creature in and in the same area, called Dongu-Mataba, which is a river that connects to the Ubangi River in the Republic of the Congo. In the sighting a man named Joseph Ellis only saw the tail of the alleged creature which he estimated to be around 10 meters. My personal favorites.

Of all the cryptids, I think that the african cryptids captivate me the most. I find these to be the most interesting.

Here is a breif overview of all of the African Cryptids I know. Feel free to post your thoughts on the great cryptids of Africa, or tell me if I missed some. These are just brief summaries, but tell me if you want a more detailed description of any one of these.

Mokele Mbembe: this African cryptid is beleived to be a living sauropod. It has long neck, long tail, and three toed footprints. Sometime said to have a small horn on it's nose, and often reported to have an attitude problem. It is reported to be around the size of an elephant, and having reddish brown skin. Emela-Ntouka: A large semi-aquatic crpytid described as having an elephantine body, with a long tail and a sinlge ivory horn on it's nose.

It is said to gore elephants with its horn. Some people think this animal is a living ceratopsian, while others beleive it to be a semi-aqautic rhino. Reported from the Likouala swamp region. Mbielu-mbielu-mbielu: Means "Animal with planks growing out of it's back". No description of the body of this animal was given because it was submerged, all that could be seen were the planks growing from it's back.

Many researchers belive this animal is a Stegosaur. Ndendeki: A giant turtle with a shell 15 feet in diameter, believed to be Trionyx triunguis, of the African soft-shell turtle. Nguma-monene: A large snake said to have a ridge running down it's back. Nendu' Me: A large dragon-like animal with bat like ears and wings. The North American Cryptid Map

It is unknown just what exactly the Mamlambo is, or if it is even real. Agogwe: A small species of Bigfoot like animals from Central Africa. Agogwe are said to be about 4 feet tall and fat. I like to think of them as the Oompa Loompas of hominids! Mwanga: A giant gray cat the size of a donkey. This animal was said to ha ve killed several people on the ivory coast. Offilau: Or that's at least how I think it's spelled.Everybody knows about the Loch Ness Monster and Megalodon.

You might also be aware that there is supposed to be an Apatosaurus living in the unexplored depths of the Congo. But there are quite a few other prehistoric animals said to be still walking the Earth in various remote places. According to a Discover Magazine article, the Brazilian was hunting in the Amazon when a blood-curdling scream echoed around the forest. Dos Santos, an experienced hunter, immediately ran and hid in a river. He heard the call four more times as the creature moved away.

While some have likened the Mapinguari to a South American Bigfootit has also been described as an enormous, sloth-like creature with large curved claws, reddish fur, and a stench to peel paint. This has led cryptozoologists to speculate that the myths actually refer to a surviving species of ground sloth, a group of gigantic, bear-like creatures believed to have gone extinct around 5, years ago.

Inornithologist and scholar of the Amazon David C. Oren set out to try and track the Mapinguari in the rainforests of western Brazil, collecting over eyewitness accounts of the creature. One of the more legendary entries on our list, the Lukwata is a Sudanese cryptid said to lurk within the swamps around Lake No. It is usually described as a great serpent up to 30 meters ft in length.

According to a article by Captain W. The Lukwata was also known in Ugandawhere the Baganda, Wasoga, and Kavirondo tribes supposedly associated the creature with sleeping sickness and made burnt offerings of sheep and cattle to the beast. Ina Japanese fishing vessel was trawling for mackerel near New Zealand when its nets dragged something very peculiar up from the deep.

The carcass, which nobody could positively identify, but which looked remarkably like a Plesiosaurcaused such a stir that the Japanese government issued a commemorative stamp depicting a Plesiosaurus skeleton that same year. Soon after the carcass became international news, tissue samples produced evidence that the creature was actually a dead basking shark.

Unfortunately, after a crew member took a few samples and measurements, the carcass was released back into the ocean to prevent it from spoiling the mackerel catch, making it impossible to definitively refute claims of prehistoric origin.

Known to the local Aborigines as the Yarri, it first came to the attention of white settlers in the s. Three years later, a traveler named Rilla Martin took a picture supposedly depicting the beast.

One of the strangest dinosaurs to have ever lived, Therizinosaurus looks like a bizarre mixture of horse and bird, with awkward, Edward Scissorhands—like claws sticking from its forelimbs and feathery protrusions coming from its elbows. Oh, and, at least according to a missionary group from Creation Ministries Internationalthe creature is still around as part of a lost world of living prehistoric creatures on the small islands of West New Britain in Papua New Guinea.

According to the group, nine natives of West New Britain have spotted the creature since the late s. To make the story even more interesting, the group also claims that the islanders have seen a second creature, this one matching the description of a sauropod, possibly Apatosaurusswimming between the islands.

The Gazeka legend was originally started inwhen a widely syndicated newspaper account described explorer C. As it reared upon its hind legs and pawed the air it looked to the hunter as big as a house, standing fully 25 feet high. There is much debate on whether these creatures are real or just stories.

Surprisingly there are dozens of these creatures found all over the world. These beings are called cryptids and are studied by cryptozoologists.

Cryptids are organisms that their very existence has yet to be proved or disproved. Many are just made up stories, but some are actual animals that have been thought extinct that are actually existing in areas with a low human population.

African cryptids

The Adjule is also called a Bush Dog. It is a canine creature supposedly living close to the Sahara Desert in North Africa. He was an explorer and naturalist from France. It is possibly an undiscovered variety of African Wild dog. Hunters in a village in Western Mauritania last sighted the animal in It is described as being about two and a half feet tall.

It has webbed feet and thick, rough skin that is crimson in color with a bluish tint to it. They normally hunt in packs ranging from three to thirteen members. The Adjule are not known to attack humans. Jordan described it as fourteen feet long with a head marked and shaped like a leopard but as big as a lioness.

The creature had two long tusks coming down from its upper jaw like a walrus and had scales like an armadillo.

The Dingonek was said to be as broad as a hippopotamus and have claws like a giant lizard. It is considered to be semi-aquatic and lives in and near creeks, lakes and rivers. Big game hunter Edgar Beecher Bronson also saw the creature and described it almost exactly the same as Jordan did. They are said to be extremely territorial and will kill hippos, crocodiles and fishermen that get too close.

It is possible that this cryptid is a new species of Arachnid. The eggs of the creature are a pale yellow or white and peanut shaped. Hatchlings are a bright yellow with a purple stomach. As they get older they become a dark brown. The spider is so frightening because of its size. It has a leg span of nearly five feet and preys on birds and other small game. It is thought to be highly venomous. The Marozi has the body of a lion, but it has the spots of a leopard. The animal lives in the mountainous areas of eastern Africa.

They supposedly lived in great numbers in the Aberdare Mountains thirty years ago but have slowly been killed off. There are different theories as to exactly what the creature is. One is that it is just a regular lion that for some reason did not lose the spots it had as a cub.

It could be a genetic mutation, but this is extremely rare in the wild.S ome legendary cryptids are absolutely real. But here are some of the greatest mythical animals and monsters from the world of fantasy. This freaky animal has a body composed of various animal parts, but in most cases it's only a horned squirrel or a rabbit. The angry bishop fish could find the location of the seamans' daughter on a boat, warp her to his lair, absorb her energy and send the dead body back.

The Bishop was taken to the King of Poland. A Swiss photographer named Balkin saw the creature in and photographed it. The beasts killed their victims by tearing at their throats with their teeth.

The second specimen found in was much bigger 3. These powerful, hyena-like animals were reported in Kenya in the 19th and early 20th centuries, but no proofs were found to their existence. The explorer John Alfred Jordan said he shot at the Dingonek in in Kenya, that was at least 18 feet long and had reptilian claws:.

The elephant-sized creature with a big horn or tusk lives in the lakes and swamps of the Congo River basin in Congo, Cameroon and maybe in Zambia.

The Samburu "Nkampit" appears also to be a version of this creature. Stories of the Nandi bear state that it is fierce, nocturnal, stands on its hind legs and can kill animals.

There is no scientific evidence that the Nandi bear exists. InCharles William Andrews suggested that the Nandi bear may be a surviving representative of the extinct Chalicothere. Inpaleontologist Louis L. Jacobs commented that "if chalicotheres existed now, they would have been found out just like the giant forest hog was.

Zoologist Reginald Innes Pocock claimed that reports of the Nandi bear were misidentified hyena, specifically the Spotted hyena. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Redirected from Nandi Bear.

In other words: a real monster that may not actually be real. They exist in folklore and blurry photographs and not much else, but that shouldn't stop you from believing in them. After all, many of the exotic animals we are familiar with today were once cryptids. Kangaroos, gorillas, and squids at one point were just eyewitness accounts explained to skeptical people back home.
